Beyond the Robots

FIRST Tech Challenge is about more than just the robots. We want to encourage teams to visit, socialize and build friendships while competing. So outside of the robot rounds and judging, we will be offering a variety of activities for team members to participate in.

 

Thursday, June 19

Opening Ceremonies

Each team will be recognized in this tribute of the participants. Teams will receive a custom flag to wave from the stands when emcee announces them and displays their team photo on the screens. National Anthems will be played for each country represented and a couple of guest speakers will provide words of support and encouragement.

 

Friday, June 20

College Faire

The Michiana area has several colleges that offer engineering and other STEM degrees. They will be set up in the Great Hall for students to visit with and learn more about educational opportunities around the South Bend area.

 

Video Game Social Event

Using the Bendix ESports Arena, students will compete head to head in a single-elimination tournament. The games will be streamed in the Great Hall where teams are enjoying an ice cream social while a local DJ plays popular dance music. It will be a great opportunity to unwind, meet members from other teams and build lifetime friendships.

 

Saturday, June 21

Maker Faire

The Great Hall will be a buzz of creativity as local artists and makers collect to display their talents. Several robots will also be demonstrating their abilities.

 

Celebration Concert

Local cover band, The 1985, will be providing a super-charged technical concert of rock, pop, rap and more. It will be a celebration of all of the hard work the teams put into the season. While the members are dancing in their neon, the teams that qualified for the Division Finals will be allowed into the pits to fine tune their robots and coordinate the autonomous programs for the finals.

 

Sunday, June 22

Awards & Closing Ceremonies

Team members will be invited into the Bendix Theater to receive recognitions earned throughout the tournament. The Arena will be streaming the awards presentation for team guests.
